Mike Ward heads into his sophomore season after a solid sophomore season looking to build upon a solid first campaign and challenge for the starting spot at 184 pounds. Ward wrestled well in a number of tournaments during the first semester, including a solid showing at Wilkes. He heads into the 2007-08 season looking to build upon a 14 win season last year.
Lion Career:
2006-07: Ward went 4-2 at the ESU Open on 11/18...3-1 and advanced to the finals at the Cleveland State Open on 12/16, placing second...went 4-2 at Wilkes Open and placed fourth...made collegiate dual debut with 3-2 win over Cornell[apos]s Joey Hooker on Jan. 7 (Hooker was ranked No. 19 at 174 and moved up a weight to face Ward)...dropped hard-fought 3-1 decision to No. 3 Mike Pucillo of Ohio State in Big Ten dual debut on 1/26.
2005-06: Red-shirt season...went 13-9 unattached at 174 pounds...1-0 in pins, 1-0 in majors and 0-1 in technical falls.
High School/Personal: Ward was a two-time Ohio State champion and three-time finalist...won the 171-pound title in 2004 and 2005...runner-up in 2003...ranked No. 8 in the nation by InterMat...posted a 41-3 record his junior year...went 38-2 in his senior season...posted a 140-12 career record...helped lead his team to a state runner-up finish.
