Having missed the majority of two full seasons due to early campaign injuries, senior Tim Haas was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA this past spring. Haas returns now as the most veteran member of the Penn State team and a leader both on and off the mat. Coming off a 2007-08 season that saw him hampered by injuries once again throughout the campaign, Haas will once again be vital to Penn State[apos]s success in the lighter weights in 2008-09.
Lion Career:
2007-08: Went 2-0 at wrestle-offs with a major...lost 12-11 tiebreaker decision to Maryland[apos]s Steve Bell on 11/11. Returned after six week absence to go 1-1 at Wilkes Open (2-1 with one win over non-collegiate wrestler)....lost 6-1 decision to #7 Mike Grey of Cornell on 1/4...at National Duals on 1/23, got injury default win over UTC[apos]s Shawn Cordell, dropped tough 2-0 decision to #6 Kenny Jordan of Nebraska, close 7-3 loss to #7 Mike Grey of Cornell, fell to #4 Nick Fanthorpe of Iowa State...dropped tough 6-2 decision to #14 Reece Humphrey of Ohio State on 1/25...lost close 6-4 decision to #10 Andrae Hernandez of Indiana...pinned Eric Metzler of Northwestern to secure dual-winning bonus points in Penn State[apos]s 18-15 win at Northwestern on 2/1....dropped close 7-3 decision to #9 Jimmy Kennedy of Illinois on 2/3...beat Michigan[apos]s Chris Diehl 8-3 to help Nittany Lions down No. 6 Michigan on 2/8...beat Purdue[apos]s Sean Schmaltz on 2/17 (6-2) in final home dual.
2006-07: Haas went a perfect 5-0 at the ESU Open on Nov. 18, winning the title at 133...it was Haas[apos] second straight ESU title as he won the 125 crown in 2005-06...three of five wins at ESU Open were pins...had season ended by injury in practice.
2005-06: Started much of 2005-06 at 125 pounds...began the season with ten straight wins, including going 5-0 to win the 125-pound title at the East Stroudsburg Open...downed Michigan[apos]s Jim Shutich on Nov. 26 to get his first career Big Ten dual win...also got dual match wins in Penn State victories over Navy and Penn in December...went 4-3 at the Reno Tournament of Champions to finish sixth...grabbed 3-2 win over Lehigh[apos]s Matt Fisk to help Lions down Mountain Hawks in Easton...pinned Iowa[apos]s Lucas Magnani in 1:01 to help Penn State down Hawkeyes in Iowa City in February...knee injury kept him out of line-up for most of February and Big Tens...ended year with 14-7 overall record and now has 17-8 career mark...went 5-4 in duals last year (2-3 Big Ten)...grabbed 18 points in duals for Penn State in 2005-06 and has 24 career dual match points.
2004-05: Posted a 3-1 record at 133 pounds before suffering a season-ending knee injury...Haas saw his first varsity action against Lehigh at the Pennsylvania Dual Championships...after knee surgery, Haas worked hard to rehabilitate his injury and recovered ahead of schedule, ready to compete again in 2005-06. 2003-04: A redshirt season...went 6-4 competing in open tournament competition...placed fifth at the Edinboro Open and sixth at the Cleveland State Open.
High School/Personal: A 2002 PIAA State Champion (119) and three-time state placewinner, Haas earned four letters in wrestling at Cedar Cliff High School and compiled a 142-13 career record...He twice reached the PIAA final, winning in 2002 and finishing second in 2003 and third in 2001...posted a perfect 39-0 record as a junior and was 35-2 his senior season...a four-time section champion and two-time regional champion...the youngest of six siblings, he has three older brothers and two older sisters.
