Scott Hughes joined the staff of the Nittany Lion Club in 2018 as an Associate Director of Development. Hughes works with major gift donors to the athletic department. He was promoted to Director of Major Gifts in 2021. Prior to coming to Penn State, Hughes was the Associate Director of Leadership Gifts with the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund. He served at Virginia Tech for 5 years starting as an Annual Giving Officer for the university before moving over to athletics development. Hughes also has experience working as a college football coach at Glenville State and Jacksonville University. He has also worked at the Walt Disney World Company and was a High School Outreach Coordinator at Fortis College.
A native of Fairlawn, Virginia, Hughes earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Virginia Tech, where he was a football student-athlete. Hughes earned his MBA with a sports management concentration from Tiffin University (Ohio). Hughes and his wife Courtney, a ’03 Penn State Smeal grad, currently reside in State College.
