Center Court Wins Emmy For Best Series

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - WPSX-TV/Penn State Sports Network's Center Court with Rene Portland won the Emmy Award for "Best Sports Series", the National Academy of Arts & Sciences announced during its 2000 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards show on Saturday evening in Philadelphia.

The award honors excellence in television in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware region.

Honored for the second consecutive year, the six-show series is a behind-the-scenes look at Penn State women's basketball. Honored with the 2000 Emmy Award for their work on the Center Court series were Anne Moss (host); William Amin (producer); Don Hampton (segment director); Matt Chirdon (graphic design); and Jennifer Bortz (audio specialist).

Also nominated in the "Best Sports Series" category were "Chronicles" (Comcast SportsNet); "Eagles Game Day Live" (WTXF-Fox Philadelphia); "Inside the Eagles" (Eagles Television Network); "Penn State Hoops" (Mind Over Media); and "The Penn State Football Story" (Mind Over Media).

Last season, the Center Court with Rene Portland series captured two Emmy Awards. The show was honored in the "Outstanding Sports Feature/Programming" category (Don Hampton, feature director; William Amin, producer). Hampton also received an individual Emmy for his work on the series.

The Center Court with Rene Portland series will enter its seventh season this fall.
