STATE COLLEGE, Pa., October 4, 2000 - Penn State senior field hockey player Maegan Galie was named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week as announced by league officials. It is the third time this season that a Lady Lion has been awarded the honor. The Collegeville, Pa., native tallied the game-tying and the game-winning goals in the team's 3-2 overtime win at Michigan State on Friday. With the win, the Lady Lions remain undefeated in the conference with a 2-0 record.
Galie leads the team in assists and is the second leading scorer with 18 points (6 goals, 6 assists). She has tallied at least one point in seven of Penn State's 10 contests, including the first six in a row.
A 1999 All-American and United States Developmental team member, Galie ranks among the best field hockey players in Penn State history. She currently ranks seventh in career assists (41) and career points (113). Her 46 career goals are ninth-best all-time. Galie was named Player of the Week during the 1999 campaign, as well, en route to first team all-Big Ten honors.
The Lady Lions are riding a six-game win streak heading into tonight's contest against Keyston State rival Temple. The game will be played at Bigler Field and will begin at 6 p.m. Penn State remains at home for another Big Ten showdown against Indiana on Saturday. That game will begin at 3 p.m.
