State College, Pa. - November 8, 2005 - The First round match-ups for the second annual Pennsylvania State Dual Championships have been set with host Penn State, ranked No. 12 in the USA Today/NWCA coaches poll, facing Pitt-Johnstown to open up the tournament. The Mountain Cats are ranked No. 3 in Division II. Action begins in Rec Hall at 10 a.m. on Sunday with four first round duals.

The top half of the bracket features No. 8 Lehigh battling Williamson, an NJCAA entrant, in one dual and Mercyhurst and Lock Haven squaring off in the other. Mercyhurst is ranked No. 15 in Division II. Penn State and UPJ make up one half of the bottom portion of the bracket with Clarion taking on York, a Division III powerhouse, in the other dual.

"I think the exciting thing for wrestling fans is that this event gives them the chance to see the various divisions of collegiate wrestling in Pennsylvania, from Division I to junior college," said Penn State head coach Troy Sunderland. "Really, what we want to highlight with this tournament is collegiate wrestling in Pennsylvania and this day gives the fans a great opportunity to see some of the best that the state has to offer."

Penn State, as well as each team, will wrestle in two other duals in addition to he UPJ opener. For Sunderland, last Sunday's Wrestle-Offs could act as a springboard into this Sunday's dual tournament. "We want to see the level of competition that we saw in Wrestle-Offs and pick it up even more," Sunderland said. "Three matches in one day will give us a great opportunity to see if the things we've been working on in practice are coming through on the mat. A Penn State wrestler's goal is to wrestle the perfect match, to score from all three positions and go for the pin. We want to see that we're getting better each time step on the mat."

The first four duals take place at 10 a.m., with the semifinals and consolation match-ups starting at 12 p.m. The championship match and all placing duals, third through seventh, will then take place at 2 p.m. Tickets will go on sale at the Rec Hall ticket windows beginning at 9 a.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth and senior citizens.
