UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; November 15, 2005 - You can easily pick senior Tiffany Weimer out on the field- and not just because of her high-level of talent either. Game-in and game-out, Weimer sports the easy-to-spot headband no matter what.

"I started wearing headbands when I played middle school basketball to be different along with some high socks. I just felt comfortable with it," said Weimer. "Then I brought it to the soccer field and I liked being different."

The "different" hasn't come without its costs though, as friendly ridicule follows Weimer still.

"Some people say to me that wearing a headband is just usually someone's 'thing' when they're 12," laughed Weimer. "One time, my teammates here played a joke on me and took them all."

Thank goodness Weimer found the coveted box full. The senior from North Haven, Conn., can practice with any of a number of headbands in the box, but sides with the white with black Nike swoosh for every game. With a Big Ten record for career goals of 87 and a Big Ten season record of 28, both marks that broke 2001 Hermann Trophy winner Christie Welsh's records, who can argue with the logic?

This season, Penn State's marketing and promotions staff held "Tiffany Weimer Headband Day" on Oct. 9. The promotion was a big hit, with most attendees dawning their headbands for the duration of the game.

Weimer thought headband day was pretty cool herself. "All the little kids had them around their heads and even my teammates wore them," said the two-time Big Ten Player of the Year, "but none of them could pull it off - that's for sure!"
