UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., December 10, 2005 - Sensational Penn State senior quarterback Michael Robinson (Richmond,Va.) finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting announced Saturday night during the presentation of the award in New York City. Southern California tailback Reggie Bush won the award and was followed by quarterbacks Vince Young of Texas, Matt Leinart or USC and Brady Quinn of Notre Dame in the voting.
Robinson, who sparked Penn State's Big Ten Championship season and a berth in the FedEx Orange Bowl with a 10-1 record, also was named the Big Ten's Silver Football Award winner as the conference's Most Valuable Player by the Chicago Tribune. He is the second Nittany Lion to win the award, joining quarterback Kerry Collins (1994).
Robinson is the second Nittany Lion to finish among the top five in Heisman Trophy voting in the past four seasons, joining tailback Larry Johnson who finished third in 2002. The former Varina High School standout received 49 votes for the award including two first place nods. Robinson is the 10th Nittany Lion to finish in the top five in Heisman voting and 17th to finish among the top 10. Tailback John Cappelletti won the award in 1973.

Robinson has thrown for 2,097 yards and 16 touchdowns and ran for 785 yards and 11 touchdowns, including two 100-yard rushing games.
Robinson also broke the Penn State season record with four games of 300+ yards of total offense, all coming against Big Ten opponents. He has been responsible for 27 touchdowns on the season (second all-time at PSU, two away from tying the record) and 42 touchdowns in his career (fifth-best all-time). He ranks ninth in the nation in points responsible for with 162.
In Penn State's eight Big Ten games, Robinson led the team to a league-high 282 points (35.2 ppg), a 7-1 record and the conference title.
No. 3 Penn State will face ACC Champion Florida State in the FedEx Orange Bowl on January 3, 2006 in Dolphins Stadium.
