Fans have always been a big part of Lady Lion basketball, and the Penn State women's basketball team takes every opportunity it can to give back. Saturday, Feb. 11 was one of those times as the Lady Lions welcomed over a hundred kids to their annual skills clinic at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Current and former members of the team worked with the kids on a variety of basketball skills, including rebounding, passing, defense and shooting. Following the practice time on the court, Penn State treated the group to pizza, drinks and autographs.
"It was definitely fun for everybody, " said head coach Rene Portland. "The players had a fun time teaching such enthusiastic kids and the kids loved every minute they had around the Lady Lions. Basketball, pizza, autographs and lots of laughs was the theme of the day."
The Lady Lions have always made a strong commitment to their young fans. The legendary "Rene's Dunkers"is the official kids club of the team, and receive priority seating behind the basket at home games. Members of the enthusiastic club were admitted free to the clinic and have the opportunity to participate in a variety of other events, including ice cream socials, pizza parties and basketball event games and contests.
