Men?' Tennis Closes Out Regular Season At Home Friday vs. Michigan, Sunday vs. Michigan State

Seniors Mark Barry and Malcolm Scatliffe will embark on their final home matches as Nittany Lions this weekend as Penn State takes on No. 39 Michigan and Michigan State on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Friday??s match vs. Michigan will feature free hot dogs and soda for all in attendance, courtesy of Penn State??s Marketing and Promotions team. Admission to both of this weekend??s matches is free.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ?C April 20, 2006 ?C The No. 57 Penn State men??s tennis team will close out regular season play this weekend at home with two matches vs. conference foes. The Nittany Lions will host No. 39 Michigan on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. and will take on Michigan State on Sunday at noon, with both matches scheduled to be held at the Sarni Tennis Center.

Penn State is coming off two tough road losses at the hands of Big Ten foes then-No. 54 Minnesota and Iowa. The Lions lost both matches by a score of 5-2, as they fell to seventh place in the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 3-5. Penn State is now 13-5 on the season.

No. 39 Michigan is coming off a 7-0 loss to then-No. 8 Ohio State. The Wolverines boast the No. 11-ranked doubles team of Brian Hung and Matko Maravic and the No. 39-ranked singles player in Maravic. Michigan is currently in fourth place in the Big Ten standings with a 5-3 conference record and is 11-9 overall.

Michigan State also fell to the Buckeyes in their last match, 6-1. The Spartans?? Nick Rinks is now nationally ranked at No. 100 in singles play, up 17 spots after posting Michigan State??s only win over Ohio State last weekend. The Spartans are tied with Iowa for tenth place in the Big Ten with a conference record of 1-7 and are 7-15 overall.

This weekend??s matches mark the last two of the regular season for the Nittany Lions, as seniors Mark Barry (St. Charles, Ill.) and Malcolm Scatliffe (San Bernardino, Calif.) embark on their final home matches at Penn State.
