Lions Host No. 15 Northwestern, Illinois In Big Ten Home Opening Weekend... Penn State (21-7, 1-3 Big Ten) hosts No. 15 Northwestern (23-8, 4-0 Big Ten) this Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, before welcoming Illinois (14-20, 1-3 Big Ten) to Nittany Lion Field on Sunday, April 9. The Lions start action on Friday, at 6 p.m. vs. the Top 25 Wildcats, which will be broadcast live on www.GoPSUsports.com. Penn State and Northwestern meet again on Saturday, April 8 for a noon match-up. The Nittany Lions square off against the Fighting Illini on Sunday for a Big Ten doubleheader starting at noon. Both games vs. Illinois will be carried locally by WBLF 970 AM and WPHB 1260 AM, as will the Friday game vs. Northwestern.

Last Time Out... Penn State went 1-3 on a tough road trip to Purdue and Indiana last weekend. The Lions started off strong with an 8-0 run-rule victory over Purdue. The next day, the Boilermakers came back and beat the Lions 3-1. The Lions were then shutout twice by Indiana by a score of 4-0.

Petrini Two Wins Away from No. 300... The 2006 season marks the 10th year for head coach Robin Petrini with the Nittany Lions. Petrini has accumulated a 298-238-1 record (all at Penn State) heading into the Lions?? Big Ten home opening weekend. She has guided the Lions to five NCAA Tournament appearances, six Big Ten Tournament appearances and six 30-win seasons during her tenure.

A Hot March For Penn State... The Nittany Lions are building on a 21-7 start this year, their best in program history. In March, Penn State compiled an outstanding 14-1 mark. No. 7 California snapped a 16-game win streak in the Lions?? last game of the Pirate Invitational at East Carolina, signaling the squad??s first loss since February 19.

When Penn State meets No. 15 Northwestern on Friday, the match-up will mark the fourth ranked team the Lions have met this season, including No. 1 Michigan. Penn State defeated the defending NCAA champion Wolverines the first weekend of the season by a 1-0 tally. The Lions hold a 1-3 record against teams ranked in the USAToday/NFCA poll.
