BLOOMINGTON, Ind.: February 24. 2007 ?C The Nittany Lion men??s track and field team competed on day one of the Big Ten Championships, Saturday at Indiana University. Ron Jules (Tom??s River, N.J.), and Mark Miller (Shillington, Pa.) posted solid performances in the opening rounds, both earning spots in Sunday??s finals.
Miller clocked 1:53.36, the third-fastest time in qualifying, in the 800-meters. Michigan??s Andrew Ellerton posted the day??s best mark with a time of 1:51.99, followed by Michigan State??s Phil Marlatt at 1:52.57.
Jules posted a time of 8.12 in the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for tomorrow??s eight-man final. Jeff Porter of Michigan clocked the fastest time of the day, going 7.83.
Chris Morrisey (Ligonier, Pa.) and Shawn Colligan (Bradford, Pa.) are also in scoring position after four events in the heptathlon, as Morrisey sits in fourth with 2843 points, and Colligan is currently sixth with 2755.
Wisconsin leads the team standings with 35 points on day one. Indiana and Ohio State round out the top three with 31 and 27 points, respectively. The championships are scheduled to conclude Sunday afternoon.
