Twelve Field Hockey Student-Athletes Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad


Bethany Marvel was one of 12 field hockey student-athletes to be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; May 7, 2007 - A total of 12 members of the Penn State field hockey team were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches?? Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad that was recently released by the NFHCA. These 12 individuals included five true freshmen. Penn State also was one of 48 teams nationally in Division I to receive an NFHCA National Academic Team Award, which is given out to teams with team grade point averages of over 3.0.

Members of the team that were named to the National Academic Squad include Gina Bartolacci, Amy Bonenberger, Laura Cahill, Lauren Ertzberger, Erica Hoffsmith, Annelise Legel, Britney Long, Jen Long, Bethany Marvel, Jen Miller, Kaity Pickett and Allison Scola. Of those 12, Bartolacci, Bonenberger, Cahill, Marvel and Pickett are all true freshmen.

For Legel, Jen Long and Scola, this award is added to a long list of awards for on-the-field performance that they earned at the end of last season. Long was a second team All-American and Legel was a third team All-American by the NFHCA. Scola was a member of the Big Ten All-Tournament Team and both her and Long recently traveled to China with the U.S. Under-21 National Team to play in a series of exhibition games.
