Assistant Coach Dan Earl Throws Out First Pitch At State College Spikes Game

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA., AUG. 8, 2007 - Approximately 200 Penn State men's basketball season ticket holders were in the stands Tuesday as former Nittany Lion basketball standout and current assistant coach Dan Earl threw out the first pitch at the State College Spikes. The Spikes posted a 12-2 victory over Lowell.

Penn State men's basketball season ticket were eligible to pick up two free vouchers for the game.

Earl, who is entering his third season as a member of the Penn State coaching staff, ranks second all-time among Nittany Lion basketball players with 574 career assists and 13th all-time with 1,256 career points. A three-time captain, Earl earned All-Big Ten recognition twice as the point-guard for Nittany Lion teams that earned a top 10 national ranking, the No. 5 seed in the 1996 NCAA Tournament and reached the semifinals of the 1995 NIT. Earl went on to play several seasons professionally in the United States and Europe before returning to Penn State.

Penn State returns four starters, eight lettermen and its top three leaders in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage in 2007-08, the fifth season for Coach Ed DeChellis.
