University Park, Pa. / - Two-time track and field captain and All-Big Ten selection Laila Brock (Washington, Pa.) was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame on June 8 in recognition of her achievements throughout her high school and college career.
Previous to her tenure on the Lady Lion squad, Brock was a top sprinter at Washington High School. Her 55.5 second 400 meter run in 1996 still stands as the third-fastest time in WPIAL history. That year, Brock competed in the U.S. Junior Nationals, running a 55.72 and placing seventh in the 400.
At Penn State, Brock represented the team as a co-captain in her junior and senior years. She was also a five-time letter winner and an All-Big Ten, All-ECAC, and Academic All-Big Ten selection. She was one of the strongest sprinters in the Big Ten during the late 1990's, consistently running in the top ten. She can be found frequently in the Penn State record books, holding the ninth-best time in the 200, the second-best 400, and as a member of the seventh-best 4x400 relay team. Brock also competed on the 1997 USATF Junior Team at the Pan-Am Games in Cuba
Brock graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's in counselor education. Since 2004, she has been an academic counselor at Florida Atlantic University.
