Jessi Lieb Selected to U.S. Developmental Women's Lacrosse Team

Aug. 7, 2007

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; August 7, 2007 - For the second consecutive year, Penn State women's lacrosse player Jessi Lieb (Villanova, Pa.) has been named to the U.S. Developmental Team by the sports national governing body, US Lacrosse. Lieb, who will be a senior in 2008, was selected for the 24-member team from a pool of 98 of the nation's top lacrosse players following a three-day tryout on the campus of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

Despite missing part or all of Penn State's final five games in 2007 due to an ankle injury, Lieb earned First Team All-West/Midwest Region honors for the second straight season. A two-time First Team All-ALC midfielder, she was a force for the Nittany Lions on both ends of the field in 2007, ranking among team leaders in goals (26), assists (13), points (39), ground balls (32), and caused turnovers (19). Before both the 2006 and 2007 seasons, Lieb was selected as a Tewaaraton Trophy candidate.

Also, former Nittany Lion Michele DeJuliis was again selected to the U.S. Elite Team. A three-time All-American at Penn State, DeJuliis has been a member of the U.S. Elite Team since 1994. She ended her collegiate career ranked eighth on Penn State's career points list with 203. After serving five years on the Baltimore Police squad, DeJuliis has been an assistant coach at Princeton for the last three seasons.

The next activity for the U.S. teams will be the Stars & Stripes Weekend in October. The event is slated to be held in Portland, Ore., and will feature competition against the University of California, the University of Oregon, and Stanford University. Dates and times for the match-ups will be announced in the near future.
