Lady Lions Announce Non-Conference TV Schedule and Times

2007-08 Penn State Women's Basketball Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Penn State women's basketball team will have four of its non-conference games on television this season, including an appearance on ESPN2. The Lady Lions will be the first-ever women's basketball telecast on the Big Ten Network when they face Pittsburgh in the final game of the season-opening WBCA Classic at the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.

The Lady Lions will make their second television appearance of the season on Sunday, Dec. 2 when they host perennial contender Duke on ESPN2 at 5 p.m., as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Penn State will be back on the Big Ten Network against Georgetown on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m., and on Thursday, Dec. 13 versus Mississippi at 8 p.m.

"We are very excited about the number of games we will play on national television during the non-conference portion of our schedule," first-year head coach Coquese Washington said. "It's great to be able to showcase our program on both ESPN2 and the Big Ten Network. The whole country will get a chance to see why we have some of the best fans in college basketball."

The Coquese Washington era begins with the WBCA Classic presented by Basketball Travelers. The WBCA Classic opens with the Charlotte 49ers of the Atlantic 10 taking on the Big East Conference's Pittsburgh Panthers at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. The Lady Lions will face off against Pac 10 foe Arizona in the nightcap at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's opener features the Arizona Wildcats against Pitt at 4 p.m., before Penn State meets the 49ers at 6:30 p.m. The tournament's final day will see Arizona and Charlotte collide at 1:30 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. match-up between the Lady Lions and Pitt.

In addition to the WBCA Classic and the games against Duke, Georgetown and Mississippi, Penn State will face Drexel at the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. The Lady Lions will also have an exhibition game against Millersville on Halloween night (Oct. 31) at 7 p.m.

The Lady Lions take to the road to face Xavier (Thurs., Nov. 15; 7 p.m.), South Carolina (Tues., Nov. 20; 7 p.m.), Old Dominion (Thurs., Nov. 29; 7 p.m.), Syracuse (Thurs., Dec. 6; 7 p.m.) and Bucknell (Sat., Dec. 15; 7 p.m.).

Game times and the television schedule for Big Ten Conference games will be announced at a later date.

The Lady Lions return three starters, including two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention selection Kam Gissendanner (Clairton, Pa.), who is closing in on 1,000 points for her career, and 2006 All-Big Ten honorable mention choice Brianne O'Rourke (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who is just the 15th player in school history with 200 assists. Sophomore guard Tyra Grant (Youngstown, Ohio) also returns after leading the team in scoring as a rookie and finishing third on the school's single-season freshmen scoring charts.

Adult all-session tickets are $35 and youth and student all-session tickets are $15. Single-session tickets will be available to the public beginning Friday, Oct. 5. Adult single-session tickets are $15 and youth/student single-session tickets are $6. Group packages are also available.

The Big Ten Network will air more than 600 hours of Penn State programming during its inaugural year. The vast majority of Penn State's 29 varsity sports, if not all, will be featured on the Big Ten Network in 2007-08, in addition to at least 60 hours of institutional, non-athletic programming.
