Boston, Mass. - Redshirt freshman T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) currently sits in a tie for seventh place at the Hartford Hawks Inviational after shooting rounds of 76 and 70. Howe, the 2005 PennsylvaniaHigh School state champion, finished the day at two-over par (146) in his collegiate debut.
Penn State is in second place at nine-over par (585). The Nittany Lions fired rounds of 292 and 293, trailing first-place Old Dominion by seven strokes. The 13-team field battled windy conditions on an otherwise perfect day for golf, with 67 players competing in the 54-hole event at the International Golf Club in Boston, Mass. The tournament is being played on the 6,944-yard, par-72 Oaks Course.
Senior Harvin Groft (State College, Pa.) is tied for ninth place at three-over par. Groft shot rounds of 71 and 76 for a two-round total of 147. Senior Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) and sophomore Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, Pa.) are in an eight-way tie for 11th place at four-over par. Rohanna, a 2007 All-Big Ten Conference first-team selection, fired rounds of 71 and 77 while Markovitz shot a 74 in both rounds. Sophomore Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.), last year's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, rounded out the group at seven-over par, posting a 36-hole total of 151 (78-73).
