COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Penn State men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 13 West Virginia in its final match-up at the Wolstein Soccer Classic in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday afternoon.
"Today, we were very, very competitive," said head coach Barry Gorman. "Hats off to the kids. It was a physical, physical game and they were able to match that and still play soccer. We are getting there."
The Nittany Lions gave an improved defensive performance, holding the Mountaineers to just two shots on goal. However, the Penn State attack could not net the equalizer on its eight total shots. Junior forward Jason Yeisley (Allentown, Pa.) led PSU with three shots, including two on goal.
West Virginia scored its lone goal in the contest's 42nd minute. Mountaineer senior midfielders Andy Wright and Dan Stratford teamed to net the game winner off a free kick.
Senior goalkeeper Conrad Taylor (Colorado Springs, Colo.) played all 90 minutes in goal for Penn State for the 66th consecutive game, collecting one save.
Senior defender Geordie MacNeill (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Yeisley were named to the Wolstein Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team.
