University Park, Pa. - After two rounds at the Lady Northern Invitational, the Penn State women's golf team sits in a tie for ninth place in the 14-team field. The Nittany Lions sit at 48-over par 624 after shooting rounds of 314 in the first round and then improving on that by four strokes for a 310 in the second round.

The Lady Northern is the annual fall preview event that is held at the golf course where the Big Ten Championships will be held in the spring. Penn State is hosting both tournaments this year as well as the Nittany Lion Invitational next weekend.

Kent State, on the back of two sub-70 scores in the first round, leads the field at nine-over par by one stroke over Michigan State, which is at 10-over. The Golden Flashes' Kira Meixner shot a first round 66, breaking the women's course record at the Penn State Blue Course held by former Nittany Lion and current LPGA Tour member Katie Futcher.

For the Nittany Lions, freshman Brianna Malcolmson led the team in the first round with a three-over 75. Overall, sophomore Katherine Murphy leads the team after two rounds in a tie for 34th place at 12-over par 156 (79-77), while Sara Lester is just behind Murphy at 13-over par 157 (78-79).
