UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After two days and three rounds of the Lady Northern Invitational, the Nittany Lions finished in 12 place. The team shot 309 in the third round and finished the tournament with a score of 69-over 933.
Freshman Brianna Malcolmson shot three-over 75 to lead the Nittany Lions after round one on Saturday. Sophomore Katherine Murphy shot 79 in the first round and 77 in the second round to lead the Nittany Lions into the third and final round. In round three, Murphy shot four-over 76 to finish on top for the Nittany Lions with a final score of 232. Senior Sara Lester finished only two strokes behind Murphy.
Senior Christin Pacacha improved her score from round one and shot 76 in the second round and 77 in the final round for a final score of 239. Megan Padua was one stroke behind with a score of 240.
After a close competition between Kent State and Michigan State, Kent State came out on top to win the tournament with a three-round score of 14-over 878. Michigan finished with a score of 883. Individually, Kira Meixner of Kent State won the Lady Northern with a score of four-under 212. Michigan State's Laura Kueny was the runner-up with a score of one-under 215.
The Nittany Lions will host the Nittany Lion Invitational, their second and final home tournament, next weekend. The competition will begin on Sunday, September 30 and conclude on Monday, October 1.
