Sept. 24, 2007

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Senior tri-captain Aubrey Aden-Buie (Allentown. Pa.), a standout on the Penn State women's soccer team, has been selected as one of 20 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award was designed to honor the attributes of seniors who remain committed to their university and elect to pursue the many rewards that a senior season can bring.

Aden-Buie exemplifies what it means to be a Penn State student-athlete. Enrolled in Penn State's Schreyer Honors College, she is currently double majoring in Psychology and English and boasts a 3.75 cumulative GPA. In the past, she has been involved in raising money and awareness through Kicks for Cancer and participates in the Penn Pals program through Penn State, which pairs youngsters with college mentors as pen pals.

The senior striker has also made many contributions on the field. This year, she already has four goals and leads the team in points for the season with eight.

The senior striker has also made many contributions on the field. As a junior in 2006 she earned first team All-Big Ten, third team NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region and third team Soccer Buzz All-Region honors. She led her team with 28 points, 12 goals and 4 assists, including the game winner against Boston College in the NCAA tournament sending the Nittany Lions into the quarterfinals. Aden-Buie was selected as the 2006 Offensive MVP of the Big Ten Tournament after scoring two goals and notching two assists during Penn State's championship run. She also has accumulated 20 career goals, including four game-winning goals and earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week once. The Allentown native has been part of three Big Ten championship squads while at Penn State.

The award, which was first created in 2001 in response to the trend of college basketball players leaving school early to turn professional, has now expanded to other sports, including soccer. From the list of 20 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists in October for the 2007 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote beginning October 16 and concluding November 21. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches, media and sponsors to determine the recipient of the award. The winner will be announced during the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships scheduled on December 7-9 in College Station, Texas.
