UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Nittany Lions will host the annual Nittany Lion Invitational this weekend. The tournament will begin on Sunday with two rounds of play and conclude with one round on Monday. Sunday's 36 holes will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start while Monday's 18 holes will being with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of play on Monday.
The 14 teams competing include Penn State, Western Michigan, William and Mary, Bucknell, Rutgers, Princeton, Bowling Green, James Madison, Ohio University, Monmouth, Boston College, Maryland, Xavier, and Ball State.
The annual event will be held at the Penn State Blue Course, which was also the site of last weekend's Lady Northern and will be the site of next spring's Big Ten Championships. In last year's Nittany Lion Invitational, Penn State finished first for the first time since 2002 and former Nittany Lion Evelyn Paik finished in first place individually. Penn State has produced the last two individual medalists at the Nittany Lion Invitational in Paik last year and in Maggie Lester in 2005.
The Nittany Lion Invitational has been played 30 times since its inception in 1974. Penn State has claimed the title 17 times while a Penn State individual has claimed the individual title 11 times. Overall, Penn State has won four of the last seven NLIs dating back to 2000.
