Bouchelle Nets Gamewinner for No. 10 Nittany Lions

Oct. 12, 2007

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 10 Penn State extended its win-streak to seven consecutive games on Friday night with a 2-0 victory over visiting Michigan State. The Nittany Lions are 10-2-1 with a 4-0 conference mark, while the Spartans fall to 5-7-1 (0-5 Big Ten).

Penn State came on strong in the first half, out-shooting the Spartans 8-0. A corner around 14 minutes into the game resulted in a flurry of shots that proved to be too much for MSU goalkeeper Nicole Galas. Redshirt-junior Zoe Bouchelle (Cockeysville, Md.) found the back of the net for her first goal of the year when Carly Bedesem (Holland, Pa.) redirected a hard-hit shot from Aubrey Aden-Buie (Allentown, Pa.) to Bouchelle, who gave the Nittany Lions the 1-0 lead at the 14:42 mark.

Sophomore Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.) continued her offensive tear, scoring a point in her ninth straight game. Schoepfer got her goal on a fast restart by the Nittany Lions when crafty midfielder Bouchelle lobbed one over the Michigan State defense to Schoepfer, who took the goalkeeper one-on-one for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.

Penn State outshot the Spartans 16-7, and took five corner kicks to Michigan State's two. Schoepfer and Danielle Toney (Northville, Mich.) led the Nittany Lions in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher (Seymour, Conn.) made one save for the win, which marked her fifth shutout of the year.
