UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 1 seed Penn State (15-3-1, 9-01 Big Ten) will face No. 8 seed Iowa (8-7-4, 4-6-0 Big Ten) in the Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 8 at noon ET. This year, the Tournament is being hosted by Minnesota at Elisabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. Fresh off its 10th-straight Big Ten title after a 1-0 victory at Ohio State on Friday, Penn State is now looking to defend its Big Ten Tournament championship from last season.
The Nittany Lions' match-up with the Hawkeyes begins tournament action on Thursday and is followed by No. 4 Indiana vs. No. 5 Ohio State (11-8-0, 5-5-0). The winners of those two contests meet on Friday, Nov. 8 in the 6 p.m. ET semifinal bout. Other Thursday games include No. 2 Purdue (16-2-2, 8-1-1 Big Ten) vs. No. 7 Northwestern (9-6-4, 4-4-2 Big Ten) at 9 p.m. ET and No. 3 Illinois (11-5-1, 6-3-1 Big Ten) vs. No. 6 Minnesota (9-8-1, 5-5-0 Big Ten) at 8 p.m. The winners of those games face each other at 6 p.m. ET Friday night in the first semifinal game. The Big Ten championship match will be held on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. ET.
The Big Ten Network and CSTV will combine to televise the semifinals and finals of the 2007 Women's Soccer Tournament to be played from Nov. 8-11. On Friday, Nov. 9, the semifinals of the Women's Soccer Tournament will be played Friday night at 6 and 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by the Big Ten Network on a tape delay basis early Saturday morning at 1 and 3 a.m. ET. The women's semifinals will also re-air on the Big Ten Network on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 8 and 10 a.m. ET. The championship contest will be played on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. ET with the Big Ten Network providing live coverage of both it and the men's soccer title games on either a regional basis or alternate channels. CSTV will also carry the men's championship game live on Sunday and will run the women's championship contest on a tape-delay basis at 6 p.m. ET.
Penn State defeated Iowa earlier this season, 1-0, in Iowa City and has an 11-0-0 all-time record vs. Iowa. The Nittany Lions hold an 18-6-3 record overall in the Big Ten Tournament, including an 8-2-3 mark in the quarterfinals. Penn State has been the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the past 10 years and holds a 6-1-2 first-round mark as the top seed. PSU has won four Big Ten Tournament titles, including last year's when the tournament was held at Jeffrey Field.
Ranked seventh nationally, the Nittany Lions' only loss this conference season, a 1-0 defeat in double overtime, came at the hands of host Minnesota in Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
