UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Lady Lions (8-3) finish their non-conference schedule at Bucknell with a rare Saturday night game at 7 p.m. Saturday marks Penn State's first trip to Lewisburg in more than 33 years.
The game can be heard on the Penn State Sports Radio Network with Jerry Fisher (play-by-play) and Chris Morelli (analyst) describing play. Locally the game will air on the radio on WMAJ. The audio feed is available at www.GoPSUSports.com.
The Lady Lions are a perfect 7-0 all-time against the Bison. Penn State last played in Lewisburg on Feb. 19, 1974, a 49-30 Lady Lion victory. The last time the squads met, Kelly Mazzante was one of four Lady Lions in double figures with a team-high 25 points to lead Penn State to an 86-72 victory over Bucknell in the first round of the 2002 Preseason WNIT on Nov. 15, 2002. Tanisha Wright added 19 points and nine rebounds in the win.
The Lady Lions have earned eight wins in non-conference play for the 11th time since joining the Big Ten in 1992-93, a span of 16 seasons. However, it is the first time since the 2003-04 campaign that Penn State boasts eight wins out of conference.
Sophomore guard Tyra Grant (Youngstown, Ohio) led four Lady Lions in double-digits with 24 points in Thursday's 84-77 win over Mississippi. She also added five rebounds, a career-high six assists and three blocked shots for the Lady Lions, who are 6-0 when scoring 70 points or more. Senior Kam Gissendanner (Clairton, Pa.) added 18 points, including a 7-for-7 effort from the free throw line, and six rebounds, while freshman Janessa Wolff (Park Rapids, Minn.) made all five of her shots from the field en route to 13 points. Meggan Quinn (Red Lion, Pa.) had a career-best eight points against the Rebels, including a pair of three-pointers.
Grant is one of four Lady Lions to average double figures with 15.0 per game mark, which is sixth in the Big Ten. Penn State is the only school to have four players ranked in the Top 15 in the conference in scoring. Gissendanner is among the league leaders in scoring (12.3), rebounding (7.6) and free throw percentage (.881).
The Bison are 3-5 this season with wins over Howard, George Mason and Binghamton. Amanda Brown leads Bucknell with a 12.8 scoring average, while Hope Foster is second on the team in scoring (11.1) and first in rebounding (8.0).
The Lady Lions will take 13 days off for final exams and the holiday season before beginning the 2007-08 Big Ten schedule at Iowa on Dec. 28. Penn State returns to the Jordan Center on Wednesday, Jan. 2 to face Illinois at 7 p.m.
