University Park, Pa. - Four members of the Penn State field hockey team were named All-Americans by womensfieldhockey.com, a website devoted to the sport of field hockey, in its recently released All-American teams. Senior Kiersten Wood and junior Jen Long were named first team All-Americans. Junior Allison Scola was named to the second team while senior Mallory Weisen was a third team selection. All four individuals were also NFHCA All-American teams.
Wood, who was also a first team NFHCA All-American, scored six goals and recorded five assists for 17 points this year. She served as a team captain this year. This marks her second straight year on the womensfieldhockey.com All-American team as she was a second team selection last year. She was a three-time NFHCA All-American, including twice on the first team. She was also a three-time first team All-Big Ten selection and a three-time NFHCA All-Mideast Region pick.
Long, who was recently a finalist for the field hockey Honda Award, earns her first womensfieldhockey.com All-American selection. She is a two-time NFHCA All-American after she was named to the first team this year following her second team selection last year as a sophomore. The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year this year, she also contributed on the offensive end as she led the Nittany Lions and co-led the Big Ten in assists with 12. Long earned the womensfieldhockey.com National Player of the Week honor after she came off the bench to help spark the Nittany Lions to a comeback win over Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, starting the Nittany Lions on their run all the way to the national championship game.
Scola, who was named an NFHCA All-American for the first time in her career when she made the third team, garned second team honors from womensfieldhockey.com. Scola started every game this year and has started 64 straight games for the Nittany Lions heading into her senior year next season. She was second on the team in assists with 11 and also scored four goals on just six shots on goal. A very versatile player, Scola has played forward, midfield and back during her career. She was a second team All-Big Ten pick this year as well as first team NFHCA All-Mideast Region.

Weisen adds the third team All-American selection from womensfieldhockey.com to her third team All-American selection from the NFHCA, which was her first career All-American honor. The senior was second on the team with 11 goals this year and had a Big Ten-leading eight game-winning goals, which led the Big Ten as she became the second straight Penn State player to lead the Big Ten in game-winning goals following Scola last year. Weisen was also an important part of the Penn State defense that recorded a Big Ten-leading nine shutouts this year and shut out both No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 3 Maryland in the NCAA Tournament.
Just as with the NFHCA All-American teams, Penn State had the most selections on the womensfieldhockey.com All-American teams of any Big Ten squad. No other Big Ten team had more than two on the NFHCA teams. Iowa had three on the womensfieldhockey.com teams. Just as with the NFHCA teams, the four honorees on the womensfieldhockey.com teams for the Nittany Lions was tied for the most selections of any school in the country with North Carolina and Maryland.
