Jan. 15, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA., Jan. 15, 2008 - The Nittany Lion men's basketball team came into Tuesday night's contest in the Jordan Center with No. 17 Wisconsin look snap its one-game losing streak after a disappointing loss to Minnesota. Nevertheless, the Badgers never trailed, and shot a blistering hot 59.6 percent (31-of-52) for the game to defeat the Nittany Lions by a score of 80-55.

In front of a student crowd of nearly 3,000, Geary Claxton (West Haven, Conn.) left the game with 13:21 to play in the first half, and did not return, after suffering a left knee injury when he fell to the floor on a scrap for an offensive rebound with Wisconsin center Brian Butch. The injury prevented the senior forward from tallying in the scorebook for the first time in his illustrious Penn State career.

Jamelle Cornley (Columbus, Ohio) scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half to lead the Penn State, and was the only Lion in double figures. Penn State struggled from the field, shooting 22-of-60 from the floor for 36.7 percent, including just 6-of-24 (25 percent) from three-point range.

Wisconsin tallied four players in double figures. Michael Flowers led the way with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Marcus Landry added 16 markers and six rebounds, while Joe Krabbenhoft scored 12 points and Greg Stiemsma 10.

The Badgers dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Nittany Lions 41-22. Butch pulled down a game-high 12 boards in the winning effort.
