UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State sophomore women's gymnast Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) has been named the Big Ten Women's Gymnast of the Week, conference officials announced today. It is the second career weekly honor for Personett as she was also recognized on Jan. 5, 2007, and it is the first of the year for the Nittany Lions. Personett was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year last season and captured the conference vault and all-around titles at the 2007 Big Ten Championships.
Personett claimed her first all-around title of the season and the fifth of her career with a season-high 39.350 Saturday night against No. 6 Michigan. The sophomore captured the vault and floor titles with season-highs of 9.900 on each, also scoring a career-high 9.825 on bars and a season-high 9.725 on beam, finishing within the top six in each of the four events.
Currently Personett is tied for fourth in the nation on floor with an average of 9.900 as she also claimed top honors in the event in season-opener at Pittsburgh on Jan. 11.
Penn State travels to Arkansas on Friday, Jan. 25 before returning home to host West Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 2 in a double-dual with the Nittany Lion men's team at 2:00 p.m. at Rec Hall.
