UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Lady Lions' Second Annual THINK PINK Day proudly supported by Mimi Barash Coppersmith was once again a success in the fight against breast cancer as the team has raised more than $30,000 to date for four breast cancer charities. The inaugural THINK PINK Day in 2007 earned $20,490.95. The final fundraising total will not be known until the end of the season. Monies raised will be donated to the following organizations: Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
There are still ways to donate to the THINK PINK Fund as the Lady Lion Cager Club is sponsoring a THINK PINK Three-Point Challenge through the end of the season. There are two ways to donate to the challenge: fans can pledge a self-designated amount for each three-pointer the Lady Lions make this year or fans can make a straight-up donation to the Challenge. Proceeds benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Contact Cheryl Anderson (anderson.cheryl.a@windstream.net) for more information or stop at the Lady Lion Cager Club Booth on game days to pick up a pledge form.
This Saturday (Feb. 16) is also Shoot-n-Shop Day at the Nittany Mall, which entitles the cardholder to several discounts at participating merchants at the Nittany Mall. Cards are available at the Nittany Mall and sell for $5 with all money going to the THINK PINK Day fund. A list of participating retailers can be found on the THINK PINK Day page (www.GoPSUsports.com/thinkpink).
In addition to its sponsors for THINK PINK Day, the Lady Lions would like to thank Zeta Tau Alpha for their assistance in selling official THINK PINK t-shirts and Shoot-n-Shop cards at Lady Lion games throughout January and February.
The Lady Lions continue their three-game homestand and hope to put an end to their five-game losing streak when they host Minnesota (17-8, 8-5) at the Bryce Jordan Center on Thursday at 8 p.m. Fans that celebrate Valentine's Day with the Lady Lions will receive a collector's coin commemorating Coquese Washington's first victory as Lady Lion head coach while supplies last.
The Lady Lions conclude their three-game swing at the BJC with "Senior Day" against Michigan State on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Fans that attend Sunday's game will have a chance to honor lone Lady Lion senior Kam Gissendanner and will receive a Lady Lion lunchbox while supplies last. Penn State will hit the road for a two-game swing in the state of Illinois, taking on the Illini on Thursday, Feb. 21 before meeting Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 24.
