Randy Jepson and Kevin Tan to Represent U.S. in Dual Meet with Canada

Feb. 22, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State head men's gymnastics coach Randy Jepson and assistant Kevin Tan will represent the United States in a dual meet with Canada at the Calgary Gymnastics Center on Friday in Calgary. Tan will compete as a member of the U.S. Men's Senior National Team while Jepson will coach the six-man squad.

Two weeks ago, Tan captured his third consecutive and fourth overall rings championship at the Winter Cup Challenge, a prestigious USA Gymnastics event held annually in Las Vegas. Tan co-captained the U.S. Men's Senior National Team at the 2007 World Championships, helping it place fourth and secure a berth to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. In the individual event finals, facing the world's top still rings competitors, he placed fourth.

Jepson, the 2007 NACGC National Coach of the Year, is in his 17th year in Happy Valley and has his defending national champion and No.-2 ranked Nittany Lions in the hunt for back-to-back titles and the program's 13th overall.

The dual will mirror a standard collegiate gymnastics meet, with the exception that five gymnasts will compete in every event instead of six.

Jepson and Tan will leave Calgary and fly directly to Columbus, Ohio where Penn State is scheduled to meet No. 7 Ohio State in a 2 p.m. dual meet on Sunday (Feb. 24) in St. John Arena. The conference match-up will be broadcast tape delay by the Big Ten Network on Thurs., Feb. 28 (6 p.m.) and Sun., March 2 (4 p.m.).
