Pinehurst, N.C. - Despite improving the overall team score by two shots, the Nittany Lions fell to a tied 17th place after round two of the Pinehurst Challenge. The team shot 322, giving them a two-round score of 646.
Junior Sara Lester shot five-over 77, a three stroke improvement from the first day of the tournament. Lester leads the Nittany Lions into round three, currently in a tied 28th place individually. Senior Megan Padua, who led the team on day one, dropped her score by ten shots, giving her a two-round score of 168.
Freshman Brianna Malcolmson improved her score by nine strokes on the second day of the competition. She currently holds a score of 165.
East Tennessee State continues to lead the tournament after the team shot rounds of 307 and 304. East Caroline University is only four strokes behind, with a two-round score of 615. Individually, Charleston's Steffi Kirtchmayr and East Tennessee's Laura Jansone lead with scores of four-over 148.
The third and final round of the Pinehurst Challenge will take place Tuesday morning with tee times beginning at 9:00 a.m.
