Nittany Lions Swing in the Big Ten Season This Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - After two back-to-back wins, the Penn State women's tennis team (7-6, 1-1) is gearing up for Big Ten play beginning this weekend with a trip to visit Minnesota and Iowa. The Nittany Lions will be facing their eighth and ninth ranked opponents of the spring season.

On Friday, March 21, the Nittany Lions earned a 6-1 over Temple ending the Owls' 11-game win streak. Penn State swept the doubles matches and limited Temple to only one point in singles action. On Sunday, Penn State weathered the Red Storm of St. John's, posting a 7-0 win. The Nittany Lions won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Penn State went on to win all six singles matches in convincing fashion.

No. 57 Minnesota (10-5, 3-3) is currently on a two-game losing streak after posting losses to Big Ten foes Ohio State and Indiana. The Gophers fell 6-1 to both teams. Earning the sole team point for the Gophers in each Big Ten match-up was sophomore Tijana Koprivica. Koprivica also earned also earned a doubles win against Indiana with freshman partner Alessandra Ferrazzi.

The No. 45 Iowa Hawkeyes (10-3, 1-2) is also coming off two back-to-back losses to Indiana and Ohio State. The Hawkeyes kept both matches close, posting final team scores of 4-3 in each match-up. Prior to taking on the Nittany Lions, the Hawkeyes will face the Michigan Wolverines.

"We are looking forward to playing Minnesota and Iowa," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "It's great when we have the opportunity to play two ranked teams."

Following this weekend's road trip, the Nittany Lions will return home to take on Purdue and Illinois April 5 and 6. Both matches are set to begin at 10 a.m. and admission will be free.
