University Park, Pa. - Penn State sophomore women's gymnast Brandi Personett (Katy, Texas) will represent the Nittany Lions at the NCAA National Championships, to be held April 24-26 at the University of Georgia. For the second year in a row, Personett qualified as an individual all-arounder by finishing third at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships last weekend at Rec Hall.
Personett will compete in the first session of the NCAA Championships, slated for Thursday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m. in Athens, Ga., at Stegeman Coliseum. Personett, who will compete with Arkansas, will open up the meet on bars and move to beam. Following a bye in the third rotation, she will move to floor and then close out the meet on vault.
A two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection, Personett scored a 39.400 in the all-around last weekend, the third-highest regional all-around score among the individual qualifiers.
The women's gymnastics championships consist of 12 teams and 12 all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and individual event specialists. The top two teams and the top two all-arounders from each of the six regionals received automatic berths to the national championships.
The top four individuals from each of the two sessions in each event (plus ties) from the preliminary team and all-around competition will compete in the individual event competition on Saturday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m.
