East Lansing, Mich. - Sophomore Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.), last year's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, shot a team-best 76 in the third round of the 2008 Big Ten Men's Golf Championship, but the Nittany Lions still sit in 11th place with one round to play.
Foley, who earned medalist honors twice this year, is in 45th place at 18-over par after shooting rounds of 76-82-76 (234). Senior Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.), who won last weekend's Rutherford Intercollegiate, continues to lead the Lions, shooting rounds of 76-77-80 (233) and standing in a tie for 43rd place at 17-over par.
Penn State has carded rounds of 299-313-317 (929) and sits in 11th place at 65-over par. The Nittany Lions, who finished in sixth last year, will look for a final-round surge to jump in the standings.
The 89th edition of the tournament is being held at the 7,013-yard, par-72 Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. Host Michigan State leads the 11-team field at 8-over par 872. Michigan State's Ryan Brehm sits atop the individual leaderboard at 6-under par 210.
Senior Harvin Groft (State College, Pa.) stands tied for 46th place at 19-over par after carding rounds of 76-77-82 (235). Playing in his first Big Ten Championship, sophomore T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) is tied for 52nd at 23-over par. Howe, who tied for third at the Intercollegiate, shot a 71 in the first round - the lowest of any Nittany Lion golfer at the tournament - but has since followed with an 88 and an 80, giving him a three-round total of 239.
Junior Matt Leon (Brampton, Ontario) sits in 54th place at 25-over par. The junior, playing in his first Big Ten Championship since 2005, has fired rounds of 83-77-81 (241).
The final round of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday. For live scoring, click here.
