Schirk Finishes Eighth in 100 Back; Penn State Swimmers at U.S. Olympic Trials - Day Three Recap

Omaha, Neb. - Pat Schirk, who was seeded 12th in the preliminary heats of the 100 backstroke but advanced through the prelims and semifinals to earn the final spot in the finals yesterday, finished eighth in the finals of the 100 back on Tuesday night. Schirk finished with a time of :54.96, 2.07 seconds behind winner Aaron Peirsol, who won the finals in a new world record time.

Schirk will swim in the 200 backstroke later in the week. He is seeded sixth in that event.

Also on Tuesday, Tim Williams placed 27th in the prelims of the 100 butterfly to highlights the relatively light day of action for Penn State's 20-member contingent.
