Penn State Swimmers at U.S. Olympic Trials - Day Four Recap

July 2, 2008

Omaha, Neb. - Kelly Nelson qualified for the semifinals and then finished 16th in the semifinals of the 200-meter butterfly to highlight Penn State's swimmers on the fourth day of U.S. Olympic Trials on Wednesday. Nelson, the school and Big Ten record holder in the 200-yard butterfly, finished her morning preliminary swim in 2:12.58 and then touched the wall in 2:13.98 in her semifinal swim in the evening.

It was a light day for Penn State's swimmers as only Nelson and two other swimmers, Kailey Morris and Karie Haglund, competed, all in the 200 fly. Morris turned a good swim as she finished just outside of qualifying for a second swim, coming in 23rd in 2:13.35.

Tomorrow, five women are scheduled to compete in the 200 breaststroke prelims while Pat Schirk, seeded sixth in the 200 backstroke, will compete in the prelims of that event.
