The Penn State women's golf team finished the Nittany Lion Invitational in second place following three rounds of play. The final score for the Nittany Lions was 308- 306- 307 (921).
The College of William and Mary claimed the title with a final score of 297- 305- 307 (909). Longwood University, Ball State University and Princeton University rounded out the top five.
Sophomore Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) led the team with a score of 74-76-75 (225) and finished tied in fourth place. She was followed by sophomore Victoria Arena (Lansdale, Pa.) and junior Lindsay Cullen (Allen, Texas) who both tied for 16th with final scores of 232.
"Ultimately you want to win your own championship," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "I don't think the team has anything to be ashamed of. They played a very consistent three rounds of golf and got beat by a good team but we also beat a lot of other good teams. I'm also proud of Giulia (Carando) who stepped it up and really led the team this weekend."
Freshman Emily Riddle (St. Mary's, Pa.) competed as an individual, finishing tied for 14th place after scoring 77- 76- 78 (231). Sophomore Kelly Osborne (Ballwin, Mo.) was not far behind finishing tied for 24th with a final score of 234.
The Nittany Lions will prepare to take part in the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J., next weekend.
