Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season at College of William & Mary Tournament

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's tennis team begins its fall play this weekend at the three-day College of William & Mary Tournament. The tournament marks the beginning of head coach Dawna Prevette's second season.

"We have been working a lot on our transition game," Prevette said. "We hope that we can have a nice showing this weekend."

The Nittany Lions are led by sophomore Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.), who finished with a 11-8 record last season, as well as junior Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.), who finished with a record of 14-13 last year.

Also attending the William & Mary Tournament are seniors Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) and Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia), junior Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) and freshmen Allie Hefter (Longmont, Colo.), Monika Mical (Stalowa Wola, Poland), Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) and Michaela Stracar (Jericho, N.Y.).

Penn State will be one of 10 teams in Williamsburg. Four of the teams were in the ITA Rankings Top 50 last season, including Miami (Fla.) and Arkansas. Arkansas singles player Aurelija Miseviciute is ranked No. 1 in the ITA singles rankings. The tournament will include five singles flights and three doubles flights.

The William & Mary Tournament is the first of three fall competitions for the Nittany Lions. Up next is the Hampton Roads Invitational in Norfolk, Va. the weekend of Oct. 10.
