Sept. 20, 2008

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. - Junior Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) fired a second-round one-under par 69, to take the lead in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. With a two-round total of 138 (two-under), Foley leads by two strokes, followed by Oklahoma State's Trent Leon, Indiana University's Alex Martin, and Arizona State's Scott Pinckney, all tied for second at even par. Foley birdied holes; seven, 12, 14, and 15 during today's round.

"Kevin is really showing great control over his entire game," said Penn State head coach Greg Nye. "He has been patient with his game and is, in part, responsible for our team's current ranking in this tournament."

The Nittany Lions finish today at 15-over par for a two-day total of 23-over par (583), tying Stanford and Arizona State for fifth. Oklahoma State finished today at one-over par to top the leader board with a plus 12 two-day total (572).

Sophomore Tommy McDonagh (Wilton, Conn.) finished today with a three-over par and a two-day total of plus three (142), a four-way tie for seventh. Freshman standout Nick Archambault (St-Jean-Sur-Rich, Q.C.) ends his second round tied for 35, with an eight-over par round one and a two-day total of six-over par (148).

"Tommy and Nick are both playing great as well," said Nye. "Nick continues to play admirably for a kid his age and with his experience."

Junior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.), who is playing with an infected finger, finished round two tied for 69th at seven over with a two-day total of +17 (157). Senior Matt Leon (Ontario, Ca.) shot a 10-over, currently in 74th place with a two-day total of 158 (+18).

"T.J. is playing well, but he is having trouble holding the golf club due to the pain in his finger," said Nye.

Matt Leon starts Penn State off at 8:00 a.m., followed by Howe at 8:08 a.m., Archambault at 8:16 a.m., Tommy McDonagh at 8:24 a.m., and Kevin Foley at 8:25 a.m. For complete tee-times, click the live scoring link for this event on the men's golf schedule.
