William and Mary Invitational Day 3 Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Penn State women's tennis team earned two singles wins and a doubles victory Sunday on the final day of the William & Mary Invitational.
In singles play, freshman Monika Mical (Stalowa Wola, Poland) defeated Kate Lukomskaya of Arkansas in straight sets (6-4, 7-5). Freshman Allie Hefter (Longmont, Colo.) earned a two-set victory over Jessica Margolis of Elon (6-2, 7-6). Junior Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) picked up a default win over Richmond's Ashlee Vosters. Despite a strong effort, senior Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) dropped a match to Richmond's Pamela Duran (6-4, 6-3), while freshman Maria Prishlyak (Kiev, Ukraine) fell to Julie Voss of Ohio State (6-3, 6-3). Xenia Schneider of Richmond earned a straight-set victory over senior Leyla Morzan (Vancouver, British Columbia) (6-4, 6-0).
In doubles play, Mical and Morzan earned a default victory over Holly Cao and Laura Peterzan of Harvard, while McCarthy and Prishlyak fell to Ekaterina Lukomskaya and Emily Carbone of Arkansas, 8-5.
"Monika (Mical) stood out today and ended her weekend on a high note," said head coach Dawna Prevette. "Overall, we need to improve our consistency and our fitness."
Up next, the Nittany Lions will compete in the Hampton Roads Invitational the weekend of Oct. 10 in Norfolk, Va. The team will conclude its fall play at the Yale Tournament the weekend of Oct. 31.
