UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team looks to gain momentum and defend its title this weekend at the VCU Shootout, hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University. The Nittany Lions have won the VCU Shootout for the past two consecutive years and look to add a third.
The two-day 54-hole tournament will begin on Monday, Sept. 29th and will continue play on Tuesday, Sept. 30th. 36 holes will be played on the opening day with 18 left for the following. The tournament will be played at the Hermitage County Club in Manakin-Sabot, VA. The 15-team field will compete on the par-71 Manakin Course, spanning 6,955 yards.
Out of the 15 teams, 11 will be returning to the event. Penn State along with VCU, Wichita State, Virginia Tech, UNC Wilmington, Southern Florida, Old Dominion, Southeastern La., Wake Forest, and Iowa are all making return trips. New teams include the University of Richmond, University of Virginia, and East Carolina.
Penn State, returning champions from 2006 and 2007, will be led by Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.), the 2007 individual champion. Also competing for Penn State will be junior Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, PA), junior T.J. Howe (Osceola, PA), sophomore Tommy McDonagh (Wilton, Conn.), and freshmen Nick Archambault (St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Q.C., Canada).
