The Penn State Nittany Lion women's golf team will kick off the 2008-09 season this weekend with its first competition at the Bucknell Invitational. The tournament will take place at the Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa., on Saturday and Sunday, September 6-7.

This season's roster welcomes back eight returning players from last year and includes one freshman newcomer. Without any seniors, this year's squad will feature a lot of young talent.

"I'm really expecting a lot of good leadership from Victoria Arena and Brianna Malcolmson," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "Even from some of the younger players, like Emily Riddle, are certainly capable of being on the starting lineup."

Penn State will have a total of eight golfers participating in the tournament. Big Ten rules allow a school to travel with six players and grants one tournament exception to play a full roster. St. Pierre said she chose to use her exception early on to allow her team to gain experience in competition early in the season.

There are 15 teams participating in this year's Bucknell Invitational including Penn State, Bucknell, Lehigh, Rutgers, Youngstown State, St. Francis (Pa.) and Robert Morris.
