Tan to Perform with 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars at the BJC

Oct. 24, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State men's gymnastics assistant coach and Olympic bronze medalist Kevin Tan will perform tonight at the Bryce Jordan Center as part of the 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars.

Tan along with the some of the country's most other celebrated gymnasts including Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin, Paul and Morgan Hamm, Shannon Miller, and Blaine Wilson, will showcase their gymnastics talent starting at 7:30 p.m.

This summer, Tan captained the U.S. men's gymnastics team that captured a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The medal win was the crowning achievement of Tan's brilliant gymnastics career to this point and the realization of a lifelong dream. One of the world's elite competitors, Tan is also the three-time defending VISA Championship and Winter Cup Challenge still rings champion. He has excelled on the international stage as well, placing highly in world-class competitions in Germany, Australia, Canada, and France.

A native of Fremont, Calif., Tan was a six-time All-American at Penn State, winning NCAA titles in the still rings in 2003 and 2004. One of just two Nittany Lions to be honored as an All-Big Ten performer in three consecutive years, he captured three Big Ten rings crowns and a parallel bar title during his stellar collegiate career. Since joining the Penn State coaching staff full-time in 2006, Tan has helped guide the Nittany Lions to the program's NCAA-record 12th national championship (2007) and second Big Ten championship (2008). In 2007, Tan was honored as the NACGC Assistant Coach of the Year.

The 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars will offer fans a unique opportunity to see some of their favorite gymnasts perform live in an extraordinary sports and music extravaganza. In addition to medal-worthy athletic routines the show will feature songs from the Walt Disney Records' Disney Girlz Rock 2 CD and live performances from teen sensations Jordan Pruitt and KSM.
