UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 19 Penn State women's swimming team was victorious in its second dual event in three days, winning 175-82 over Richmond Friday at the McCoy Natatorium in University Park, Pa.
The win is the 27th in a row that the women's team has won. It has not lost since the 2005-06 campaign.
Courtney Adlam eclipsed her best scores in the one- and three-meter springboard as she won both events. Adlam's mark in the three-meter was more than 20 points higher than her 2007-08 best.
The Nittany Lion natators won the first 11 events of the night while seven individuals won ten events. Scoring multiple victories were Kaitlyn O'Brien (200-yard freestyle, 200 breaststroke), Kelly Nelson (100 backstroke, 500 freestyle) and Kaitlyn Morris (200 butterfly, 200 backstroke). Morris edged Daphne Skelos by .21 seconds in the 200 back.
O'Brien won by nearly two full seconds in the 200 free. Karie Haglund swam a 1:04.25 to finish first in the 100-yard breast. She was almost three full seconds ahead of Lyndsey Smith, who placed second.
Other winners were Stephanie Roop (1000 free); Michelle Myers (50 free) and Sarah Baker (100 free).
Diana Greco and Alexa Hetzel earned second and third place, respectively, in the 1000 free behind Roop.
The women's 400 medley relay team of Skelos, Haglund, Alexandra Young and Linsey DeForrest won in a time of 3:50.93.
Megan Marco turned in a 258.15 score in the one-meter springboard, which was the second best during the dual meet.
The Nittany Lions travel to the Lonestar State next weekend to take on No. 9 Texas A&M on Oct. 31 in College Station, Texas - home of this year's NCAA Championships. The following day, they'll travel across the Southwest to Dallas, Texas to face No. 12 Southern Methodist at 4 p.m.
