Three Named to Academic All-District Team

Oct. 30, 2008

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams were announced Thursday morning. In order to be nominated the student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.30 and be a starter or major reserve player. The nominees are then voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Making the list for Penn State are senior midfielder Zoe Bouchelle (first team), senior defender Jessie Davis (second team) and Junior forward Katie Schoepfer (second team).

In receiving a first team nod Bouchelle will be on the Academic All-America ballot which will be voted on in December. She received Third Team Academic All-America honors last season. Bouchelle has played in all 19 games this season and has started in 18. She has scored four goals and tallied two assists to total 10 points. Two of the goals came in Big Ten play including the game-winner over Michigan. She was also credited with the assist for the game-winner over Wisconsin.

Davis has been having an outstanding season anchoring the Nittany Lion back line. She has played every minute of every game in the 2008 campaign. Through her efforts the defense has shut out 10 opponents, eight of which were in Big Ten play. She is the reigning Big Ten Defensive player of the week and has been twice named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. Davis is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten performer. This is her first recognition by CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine.

Schoepfer has proven once again that she is one of the most dangerous strikers in the country. She has played in all 19 games this season and started 16. She has scored 10 goals to date and added five assists for 25 point. In Big Ten play she scored game-winners against Wisconsin and Iowa. She is also credited with the assist for the game-winner over Minnesota. Schoepfer was an Academic All-Ten performer last season. This is her first recognition from CoSIDA and ESPN The Magazine.

The Big Ten Champion Nittany Lions will return to Jeffrey Field Friday at 4 p.m. for their final regular season conference match with Ohio State. Seniors Bouchelle, Davis, Kaleen Adami and Allie Daus will be recognized prior to kick off, and the Big Ten regular season championship trophy will be presented to Penn State for the 11th time immediately following the final whistle.
