Hot Second Half Sparks Penn State Over NJIT, 74-47

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's basketball team came out firing in the second half, posting a 14-0 run at one point, and defeat NJIT 74-47 on Monday. Sophomore Talor Battle (Albany, N.Y.) led the way for the Nittany Lions as he scored 16 points, and went 4-7 from the three-point arch. Battle also posted six assists and had only one turnover.

The Nittany Lions lead by as many as thirty, and outscored NJIT 37-18 in the second half. Sophomore David Jackson (Farrell, Pa.) posted 13 points, going 4 of 7 from the field. Jackson also had three three-point plays in the game, including two in the first half. The double digit-scoring game for Jackson is the fourth of his career.

Following a tough first half, Penn State came out shooting in the second half. Senior Stanley Pringle (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Battle hit back-to-back three pointers, which gave the Nittany Lions a 45-31 lead to start the second half. Then, Cornley hit a lay-up and was fouled. He made the free-throw to give Penn State a 50-34 lead. On the ensuing possession, Cornley hit Jones as he cut through the lane and made the lay-up, giving Penn State a 52-34 lead. From there, the Nittany Lions did not look back, and a three-pointer by sophomore Jeff Brooks (Louisville, Kent.) gave Penn State its largest lead of the game with 3:23 to go in the game, 73-42.
