Madison, Wis. - Freshman Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia) won two matches in the consolation bracket at the Big Ten Singles Championship on Sunday. With the two wins, Lee advanced to the semifinals, eventually losing in that round.
In Lee's first match, he took on Illinois' Connor Roth. In the first set, Lee squeezed out the victory as he beat Roth 7-5. Lee then took control in the second set and took the match, 6-3.
With the victory, Lee advanced to the quarterfinal round and took on Michigan's Drew Daniel. Lee and Daniel had a very tight match, which started off with Lee winning the first set 7-6. However, Daniel stormed back and took the second set 7-6. The third set was won by Lee in a tiebreaker, 10-4, which gave him the match victory.
Lee advanced to the semifinal match and faced Minnesota's Julian Dehn. The freshman fell short to Dehn though, 7-6, 6-4. Lee finished the weekend 3-2 overall, and concludes the fall season with a 4-6 overall record in singles play.
Penn State will open up spring action on Jan. 18 at N.C. State for an 11 a.m. start. The Nittany Lions' first home meet will be Jan. 24 as they take on Saint Bonaventure and Saint Joseph's.
