Game Notes vs. Michigan State

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA., Jan. 13, 2009 - The Nittany Lion basketball team will look to post its third straight win over a ranked team at home and improve on a streak of seven-straight wins over Big Ten foes in the Bryce Jordan Center Wednesday when they take on No. 7 Michigan State (13-2; 3-0 Big Ten) in a 6:30 p.m. tip on the Big Ten Network.

Penn State enters Wednesday's game with a 13-4 record (2-2 Big Ten) and downed No. 14 Purdue in its last game at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Nittany Lions knocked off a similarly ranked Michigan State team 85-76 last year in the BJC behind big games from Talor Battle and Stanley Pringle. Battle and Pringle lead the Nittany Lions in scoring this season with Battle leading the Big Ten at 18.9 ppg and Pringle checking in sixth with 14.6 ppg.

Senior Jamelle Cornley (13.9 ppg) has helped the Lions rank second in the conference in rebounding as he pulls down 6.9 boards per game. Penn State will face the No. 1 ranked rebounding team in the conference in Michigan State, which also leads the conference in scoring and three-point percentage.

Michigan State is coming off an impressive, 75-62, whipping of defending NCAA Champion Kansas on Saturday. Kalin Lucas had 22 points in that game while Raymar Morgan had 13 points and eight boards. Lucas leads the Big Ten averaging 20.3 ppg in conference play and was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. Morgan is pulling down 11 boards per game in conference play and is shooting 58.9% on the year to lead the Big Ten. MSU has won nine straight games since falling 98-63 to #1 North Carolina on Dec. 3. At 13-2, their other loss came to Maryland, 80-62, in November.
