Morrissey Named To Academic All-District Team For Second Year

Feb. 10, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA., Feb. 10, 2009 - Nittany Lion senior guard Danny Morrissey (Cleveland, Ohio) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II first-team for the second straight year. He is the only men's basketball player from the Big Ten Conference to earn All-District first-team honors this season and advance to voting for Academic All-America honors.

One of the most prolific three-point shooters in Penn State history, Morrissey has also excelled in the classroom posting a 3.54 grade-point average while graduating with a degree in finance last May. He is now working on his second degree in Labor and Industrial Relations Management and posted a 3.34 GPA last semester. Morrissey is just the third player in Penn State history to earn Academic All-District honors twice on their career joining Pete Lisicky (1997 & 1998) and John Amaechi (1994 & 1995).

Morrissey currently stands fourth all-time at Penn State with 204 career threes, just three short of moving into third, and is the second leading active three-point shooter in the Big Ten. A starter in 53 career games, he has compiled 876 career points and a career average of nearly eight points per game. He has played in all but one of Penn State's 115 games during his four years of eligibility, having missed the 2005-06 season due to a season-ending knee injury.

The two-time Academic All-Big Ten and Dean's List selection was also one of 30 nominees nation-wide this year for the Lowe's Senior Class Award.

Morrissey earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors in 2007 after torching Purdue in West Lafayette for 21 points on 6-of-7 from the three-point arc. Penn State (17-7; 6-5 Big Ten) travels to Purdue (17-6; 6-4 Big Ten) on Wednesday for a clash with the No. 20/23 Boilermakers. That game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tip on the Big Ten Network.
